Webb Gear is owned by our parent company, Ehmke Manufacturing Company, Inc. Our founder had a prior career few people ever achieve, yet most youngsters dream of. As a young man, the tall, lanky, sandy haired Howard Ehmke graced the professional baseball diamonds of America for 15 years. In the fall of 1929 he rose to the pinnacle of professional sports adulation. He was the 1929 World Series Game 1 winning pitcher for the Philadelphia Athletics, managed by Connie Mack, playing against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.

He set a Major League record 13 strikeouts, a record that would stand for 25 years.

Howard Ehmke hung up his baseball spikes that year and followed his baseball career with a business venture of manufacturing and supplying tarps and other sewn fabrics to cover athletic fields. He sold his first infield covering to his former manager, Connie Mack, at Shibe Park in Philadelphia. Soon the visiting teams saw the effective means Ehmke had devised for covering the infield; other customers began vying for Howard's creation. Ehmke tarps soon covered the infields of major league (and minor league) baseball parks throughout the land.

Since 1929, Ehmke Manufacturing Company, Inc. has advanced to designing and fabricating technical fabric products for the U.S. Armed Forces, its Allies, the Defense Industry, Commercial OEMs and a host of industrial applications. Our product lines encompass fabric items, including almost everything the modern combat fighter carries. We are an ISO 9001 registered company, one of the very few in the textile industry.

In July 2006 we returned to our roots by acquiring Webb Gear, a manufacturer of custom color, sport-specific, team athletic bags. Webb Gear offers a comprehensive array of product designs with print, silkscreen and embroidery capabilities to our customers.
